  • 8,412 miles!

DSCN0039 just checking some things and realize that i've not been here for awhile again!  its been a whirlwind since getting back from cali.  finally stepped into the new outpost here on a full time basis.  most recently we headed off to columbus to hang at buffalo wild wings and then joshua house. had a great time, but i've still got to learn the art of padding the schedule.  i thought i/we had enough time between leaving...getting there...eating...worshipping...but we got a late start.  overwhelmed the gals at bdubs...even though i had called ahead and alerted them...we were 35 minutes late into the service.  but this trip was truly more about the journey than the destination.  we still had fun and had some adventure.

recently i had the opporutnity to teach a small group at our local jail.  it was a fatherhood group.  i sort of winged it, but started out like i usually do with what movies capture their hearts.  the usual titles were mentioned...braveheart, the matrix, the lord of rings, gladiator...and cars.  that wasn't expected.  this father shared that cars was a connection point for his young son.  i've not seen it, other than clips so i asked my new friend to explain the main plot...even though nobody thinks you have any value...you do.  dang!  that's pretty insightful.  so for an hour we weaved in and out of the movies and talking about how fathers father.  it was clear that in this group of men they didn't have a good relationship with their dad.  that is a huge place to step off.  then i walked them through the whole wild at heart message...every man has an adventure to live, a battle to fight and a beauty to rescue.  again some insight popped to the surface when i asked what was the "beauty"?  my friends were quick to say...almost anything that has beauty...the women in our lives, our daughters...anything that is larger than ourselves.  dang...dang!  they nailed it again.  very good stuff.  i may get to do this again in a couple of weeks...as we were leaving the facilitiy one of the men said ... you are coming back soon aren't you?  that was a great conversation...i want more!"

watg on another note i sort of crossed another major threshold this week with my participation in a podcast.  one of my new compatriots, josh and his pal tony do who are these guys podcast .  tony had posted over the weekend that josh was vacationing and there wouldn't be a podcast unless he could find someone to assist.  i dropped him a email and he invited me to join him in the process. he also invited mark johnson from welkom, south africa....some 8412 miles away!  the topic: two things i wished i had know before starting ministry.  you'll have to follow this link and see what we had to say.  amazing stuff this technology. me sitting in the heart of the mohican valley in loudonville, ohio...mark in the jut north pretoria, south africa dialog with our host in sunny southren california.  we used skype to make the connection and truthfully it was just like sitting at the bell and talking.  very good stuff indeed.  after you've checked it out...leave me a comment and let me know what you think.  who would have thought!  also you should check out all the changes our web wonder guy tim as assembled on our portal at www.newhopewired.tv  very cool stuff too.
